Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close across Lazer entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, consolidations, and supporting schedules.
  • •Prepare financial statements, management reporting, and variance analysis while maintaining accounting policies and working papers for a clean audit trail.
  • •Own accounting for time-and-materials, fixed-fee, and retainer engagements, including WIP, unbilled and deferred revenue, and revenue recognition judgments.
  • •Oversee cash management, banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll; standardize invoicing and collections for project-based work.
  • •Lead the annual audit and serve as primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, banks, and finance partners; coordinate Canadian tax and compliance requirements (GST/HST, year-end filings, SR&ED where applicable).

Key Requirements

  • •CPA designation with at least seven years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • •Own the close and financial reporting as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or equivalent role.
  • •Hands-on experience in a lean finance team, ideally in a startup, scale-up, technology, consulting, or professional services business.
  • •Strong technical accounting judgment with audit, tax, controls, and multi-entity reporting.
  • •Experience with project or contract-based revenue (time-and-materials, fixed-fee, retainer) and revenue recognition judgments.
