Job Summary

Build and ship authentication and authorization systems for Render’s users, agents, and services. You’ll evolve permission and scope models across applications and platform resources, own the security experience across the stack (APIs, data models, and interfaces), and implement audit trails, controls, and safe rollouts. Partner with Product, Design, Security, and other teams to drive adoption, and operate these systems with observability, incident response, and on-call support.

•Design and ship authentication and authorization systems for users, agents, and services, including credential scoping, SSO, SCIM provisioning, and fine-grained permission models.
•Evolve Render’s authorization model toward clear permissions and scopes for applications, environments, projects, and other platform resources.
•Own the security experience across the stack, from management interfaces through APIs, data models, and systems behind them.
•Build controls and audit trails customers use to define, enforce, and understand actions within their systems.
•Operate authentication and authorization systems with observability, safe rollouts, incident response, and on-call.

•6+ years of experience shipping and operating production systems.
•Built customer-facing authentication or authorization features and understand how security choices shape the product experience.
•Designed and operated systems where correctness, availability, and safe rollouts matter, including API, data-model, caching, and migration tradeoffs.
•Can balance security and product tradeoffs, explaining why controls exist and when simpler designs are sufficient.
•A track record of taking ambiguous projects from design through production while working across product, design, and engineers.
