Job Summary

Lead the Data function and define the data strategy for a frontier AI materials company. Build an evidence-led framework for identifying high-value data opportunities, and own build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions. Drive acquisition and creation of proprietary data via partnerships, experimental campaigns, and computational generation, ensuring ML-ready assets. Collaborate with research leads, Partnerships, and Finance, and grow a technical data team spanning acquisition, curation, architecture, and engineering.

Key Responsibilities

•Build and own the data strategy, translating research and commercial priorities into an ordered plan for required data assets.
•Establish an evidence-led framework to identify high-value data opportunities and architect scalable acquisition or generation pathways.
•Lead data acquisition and asset creation, including proprietary data assets, experimental campaigns, and high-throughput computational generation.
•Define and run the data request process (submission, triage, prioritization, resourcing, and tracking) and own accountability for data commitments.
•Lead, grow, and set standards for data quality, provenance, and interoperability across acquisition, curation, architecture, and data engineering.

Key Requirements

•Substantial experience owning data strategy or data acquisition outcomes in a research-intensive organization.
•PhD (or equivalent deep scientific research experience) in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Computational Chemistry, or related.
•Experience originating and shaping external data partnerships, including diligence and working with commercial/legal teams to close deals.
•Experience managing meaningful budgets and making commercial tradeoffs to prioritize and justify investments.
•Experience leading and growing technical teams, plus deep familiarity with the materials/chemical data landscape and how experimental data is produced for ML-ready use.

Education:PhD / Doctorate in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Computational Chemistry (or related)
