Job Summary

Conduct laboratory and jobsite quality tests on aggregate and hot mix asphalt to verify mix composition and consistency with required specifications. Monitor pavement conditions (temperature, thickness, density) during installation, assist with mix adjustments, and support HMA installation recommendations. Record and communicate test results, use and calibrate a density meter, and coordinate with paving personnel to keep work compliant and safe.

Key Responsibilities

•Conduct tests on aggregate and/or asphalt mix to determine composition and consistency with specifications.
•Assist with adjustments to mix composition to keep asphalt mix within specifications.
•Monitor pavement conditions (temperature, thickness, density, overall condition) during installation of HMA.
•Test materials for requirements including weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation.
•Input test results into computers and communicate results to technicians and paving personnel ethically.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equal skill level.
•Carry out standardized laboratory tests according to ASTM and AASHTO standards.
•Knowledge of basic operating procedures and mechanics of an asphalt plant.
•Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety, environmental, and transportation regulations; detect hazards and respond.
•Obtain Level 2 and/or 3 ODOT Testing Certifications within a reasonable amount of time.
