Job Summary

Partner with the global R&D organization to protect and maximize the value of innovations through IP strategy, patent filings, trade secret practices, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) reviews. Advise R&D stakeholders on agreements and protection approaches aligned to business objectives, lead patent portfolio reviews and patent budgeting, manage patent dockets for accuracy and compliance, and deliver IP trainings. Hybrid role with 3 days onsite across Chicago, IL; Glenview, IL; Warrendale, PA; and Pittsburgh, PA.

Key Responsibilities

•Advise the global R&D function on the optimal strategy for protecting company innovations.
•Develop, maintain, and update IP strategy documents for key R&D projects, including agreements, patent filings, trade secrets, and FTO reviews.
•Collaborate with R&D stakeholders to evaluate how IP protections support business objectives and competitive advantage.
•Lead regular patent portfolio reviews and manage the patent budget.
•Support patent docket management to ensure accuracy and compliance with deadlines, and deliver IP trainings for internal stakeholders.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 120,800 - 151,000 annually

Key Requirements

•5+ years of relevant R&D and/or patent-related experience.
•Science or technology background in chemistry, biology, engineering, or a related field.
•Experience advising R&D stakeholders on strategies to protect innovations using agreements, patent applications, trade secrets, and FTO reviews.
•Knowledge of U.S. patent prosecution practice, including Office Action response strategy and maintenance fee management (preferably USPTO-registered).
•Strong communication and influencing skills, with excellent oral and written communication and strong organization/detail orientation.
