Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the technical roadmap, execution, and outcomes for the Search Data pillar, including integrating, processing, indexing, and searching massive volumes of unstructured data.
  • •Lead the evolution of data platform and pipelines to support real-time search freshness and AI/agentic retrieval at enterprise scale.
  • •Make architectural trade-offs across freshness, correctness, cost, and operational simplicity, and own the resulting outcomes.
  • •Drive simplification and modernization of legacy data processing systems, designing solutions that are understandable, testable, and operable.
  • •Lead engineering and operational excellence for system health by setting patterns and best practices for handling real-world data messiness and improving operational metrics.

Key Requirements

  • •Deep experience with distributed data frameworks (Kafka, Flink, Spark) processing billions of events per day, including understanding failure modes for Search and AI use cases.
  • •Design data architectures at scale for messy, heterogeneous data, including schema evolution, data quality, idempotency, backfill/replay, and partial failure recovery.
  • •Proven track record simplifying complex systems into designs engineers can reason about, test, and operate confidently.
  • •Demonstrated department-level technical leadership with influence across multiple teams and ownership of top-level technical objectives tied to business outcomes.
  • •Fluency in at least one modern language (Java preferred) with strong software engineering fundamentals, including writing and reviewing code to a high quality bar.
  • •Excellent communication skills explaining complex data architecture to engineers, product managers, and leadership.
