Key Responsibilities

  • •Learn Vapi’s architecture and production environment, review incident history and reliability practices, then deliver an initial operational or reliability improvement.
  • •Own a reliability workstream across observability, incident response, capacity, performance, or production automation to reduce manual work and improve failure detection and response.
  • •Become the go-to owner for a meaningful part of Vapi’s reliability surface, delivering durable improvements to prevention or recovery.
  • •Turn operational lessons into lasting engineering improvements across latency-sensitive, real-time systems.
  • •Collaborate with Infrastructure and product engineering teams to propose roadmaps for the next reliability investments.

Key Requirements

  • •Senior or staff-level software engineering experience with SRE, production engineering, or infrastructure work in distributed systems.
  • •Write production-quality software and build reliability tooling/automation rather than relying only on operational process.
  • •Deep experience with observability, incident response, failure analysis, and capacity/performance practices.
  • •Comfort debugging across application and infrastructure boundaries with Kubernetes, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
  • •Experience with real-time networking/telephony and/or tools such as Envoy, Postgres, Redis, Kafka, Aurora, ClickHouse, or a Google-style SRE environment is a strong plus.
