Own SCIP, the open, language-agnostic protocol for indexing source code that powers code intelligence features and supports AI agents. Lead compiler and language-informed decisions for protocol and indexers, drive governance and roadmap, triage and review community contributions, and align with partner organizations running indexers in production. Work on a small, high-leverage team with real technical agency across indexer and protocol repos.

Key Responsibilities

•Shape SCIP governance and community direction by setting contribution guidelines, triage/prioritization norms, and communicating the roadmap.
•Set the technical direction for the protocol and indexers, making high-stakes decisions requiring compiler fluency (language-feature support, AST-modifying tools, symbol-resolution correctness).
•Grow SCIP into a healthier multi-party open ecosystem by driving quality, partner alignment, and increased contributor/partner engagement.
•Review and mentor community contributors and set quality standards through protocol and indexer stewardship.
•Support applied indexer work and on-call rotation, including landing fixes and improvements across indexer and protocol repositories.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 86,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Credible compiler and language fluency to make sound calls about the protocol and its indexers, including AST-modifying tools and symbol-resolution correctness.
•Comfort working across compiler/language toolchains and codebases, including examples like Java/Kotlin compiler churn, Sorbet for Ruby, build-system integration (Gradle/Maven/Bazel), tree-sitter indexing, and C++/clang and Go indexers.
•Ability to operate at staff scope: set direction under ambiguity, prioritize high-impact problems, and provide solutions that become examples others follow.
•Genuine interest in precise code intelligence as a deterministic substrate for better AI agents, including coaching on building and maintaining indexers.
•Proven open-source leadership: growing a multi-party community, setting governance/roadmaps, reviewing contributions, mentoring contributors, and driving cross-organization alignment.
