Key Responsibilities

  • •Define the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling and codegen, balancing short-term fixes with long-term foundations.
  • •Mature mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA updates and staged rollout, to make shipping predictable.
  • •Lead the staged migration of mobile repositories into Canva’s monorepo while maintaining build, test, and release continuity.
  • •Set the CI quality gating strategy across the build pipeline to surface reliability and speed issues early.
  • •Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared cross-platform foundation serving both web and mobile, not only mobile.

Key Requirements

  • •Deep, hands-on expertise with Bazel and production-scale build systems (including Gradle or Xcode).
  • •Strong native engineering background in iOS and/or Android, with clear judgement on where cross-platform tooling helps.
  • •Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines that other teams depend on (including quality gating and pipeline stages).
  • •Track record scoping and delivering complex, cross-team initiatives such as migrations, monorepo consolidation, or build-infrastructure work.
  • •Ability to set standards through documentation and technical practices that become the reference for other engineers.
