Job Summary

Serve as a product-focused counsel for DigitalOcean’s technical and non-technical teams, advising through the full product lifecycle from concept to global launch and post-release iteration. Assess and resolve legal risks across privacy, regulatory, licensing, IP, customer data security, export control, open-source, and responsible AI. Draft and negotiate complex commercial and data protection agreements, support incident response and investigations, and build scalable legal playbooks and automated workflows for Product and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

•Act as a trusted partner and primary point of contact for Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations across the product lifecycle.
•Assess and drive resolution of legal risks in product development, including privacy, regulatory, licensing, intellectual property, customer data, security, export control, open-source, and responsible AI.
•Advise on US and global privacy laws and emerging AI regulations to support global compliance for the company and affiliates.
•Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements and data protection agreements, including vendor agreements, technology partnerships, terms of service, privacy policies, and acceptable use policies.
•Support legal strategy for incident response and regulatory investigations, and co-develop scalable self-service legal playbooks, templates, and automated workflows.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 180,000 - 225,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
•8+ years of legal experience with significant in-house experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, and/or IaaS product development teams.
•Proven experience counseling AI product and engineering teams across the full product development lifecycle, from design and definition through global launch and post-release iteration.
•Strong understanding of US and global privacy regulations, intellectual property, open-source software, artificial intelligence, and data security.
•Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
