Job Summary

Build and evolve Canva’s Frontend Telemetry layer by designing a telemetry SDK that’s easy to instrument, reason about, and extend. As a hands-on staff engineer, set the SDK direction and drive adoption across product teams, collaborating with frontend, backend, data science, and analytics engineering.

Key Responsibilities

•Build a telemetry SDK that developers find easy to instrument, understand, and extend, aiming for automatic instrumentation where possible.
•Go deep into browser internals to design measurement across performance APIs, rendering, and the network layer.
•Define how Canva measures AI-driven, AI-native experiences where traditional frontend telemetry doesn’t capture the full picture.
•Own the telemetry SDK direction by setting architecture, patterns, and an end-to-end path from current measurement to the future state.
•Lead with code by building the SDK and driving adoption across product teams that will rely on it as the standard measurement layer.

•Built or significantly evolved a frontend telemetry, observability, or instrumentation system in production at scale.
•Operate naturally at the browser layer, including performance APIs, the rendering pipeline, the network layer, and how the browser executes code.
•Comfortably shape answers for frontier problems where the established playbook doesn’t fully apply.
•Have built tooling adopted by other teams at scale and know how to bring teams along to adoption.
•Production depth in Canva’s frontend stack, including React and TypeScript (and state management at scale with MobX or equivalent).
