Key Responsibilities

•Own the data layer that underpins every product surface: the databases, caches, and the strategy for provisioning, querying, and scaling data stores.
•Design and implement a robust, multi-database topology built for growth and reliability.
•Define and implement guardrails for queries and instrumentation to catch bad patterns before production.
•Guide teams on when to use which storage engine for different workloads, ensuring optimal performance.
•Collaborate with engineering teams to build systems that other engineers depend on and scale with Cursor’s growth.

Key Requirements

•Deep experience with relational databases at scale, especially Postgres, MySQL, or similar OLTP systems.
