Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead the environmental management function across SP Transmission portfolios, translating strategic direction into clear priorities, controls, and delivery expectations for portfolio and project teams.
  • •Oversee environmental capability through Lead Environmental Advisors and specialists, setting resourcing models and ensuring appropriate support is in place across the programme.
  • •Coordinate with regulators and stakeholders on material environmental matters, ensuring obligations and risks are understood and managed across the project lifecycle.
  • •Maintain oversight of environmental risk and compliance, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, controlled and reviewed in line with ISO 14001 and legal obligations; escalate and intervene when required.
  • •Provide assurance through reporting and audits/inspections, monitoring contractors and performance, managing non-compliances and corrective actions, and supporting continual improvement.

Key Requirements

  • •Degree qualification in Environmental Management, Engineering, Ecology, Geography or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • •Significant experience leading environmental management across complex engineering, infrastructure or construction programme delivery and multiple portfolios/projects.
  • •Proven ability translating environmental strategy, policy and management system requirements into practical controls, processes, and delivery plans.
  • •Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and ISO 14001 environmental management system requirements, including consent compliance and proportional application.
  • •Demonstrable experience leading teams and managing environmental risk, assurance activities, audits, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
