Job Summary

Perform histopathology laboratory work by preparing tissue samples for microscopic analysis, recording specimen gross descriptions, and sectioning tissues using microtomy techniques. Prepare, process, preserve, and embed samples as appropriate, perform routine and specialized staining (including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence), and document QC results before releasing slides to the ordering pathologist. Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, prioritize workload to meet TATs, and follow infection control, patient safety, and OSHAD/DOH/DHA/MOH/JCI/ISO policies.

Key Responsibilities

•Prepare tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis and conduct preservation procedures including processing, freezing, and embedding as appropriate.
•Record gross descriptions of small, uncomplicated specimens using specific terminology according to procedure.
•Section tissue samples using microtomy techniques on microtomes to produce acceptable quality slides for staining.
•Perform routine and special stains and relevant staining types as requested, and ensure Quality Control (QC) results are recorded and stain quality is evaluated prior to release.
•Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, recognize instrument malfunctions, troubleshoot as needed, document maintenance, and work in all shifts as scheduled while adhering to infection control and patient safety policies.

Key Requirements

•B.Sc. in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) with training and a specialty emphasis, or certification by ASCP in the specialty; M.Sc./Post Graduate leading to registration with ASCP/CSMLS or equivalent.
•Medical Laboratory experience in Histopathology procedures: 2 years for Bachelor degree holders, or 1 year if Post Graduate/M.Sc.
•Currently licensed in country of origin and with DOH/DHA/MOH license to practice in UAE.
•Fluent in spoken and written English; Arabic is desirable.
•Ability to learn and handle automation and IT programs is desirable.
