Job Summary

Deliver and review geotechnical design outputs for projects across the Island of Ireland and beyond, from desk studies and feasibility through ground investigation, interpretation, and final design. Lead technical decisions and contribute to bids and proposals, while mentoring junior staff. Work within AECOM’s established Ground Engineering team, producing reports, specifications, drawings, risk assessments, and ensuring quality, budget, and programme adherence.

•Prepare, check, and review geotechnical documents including desk studies, interpretative reports, specifications, construction drawings, and design reports.
•Own technical decisions, contribute to team/client technical review meetings, and put forward alternative ideas and concepts.
•Prepare bids and proposals for internal and external clients.
•Mentor junior staff through personal and professional development and on-the-job mentoring.
•Lead geotechnical input across the project lifecycle from desk study/feasibility and ground investigation through interpretation to final design, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme.

Key Requirements

•BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering, BSc/MSc in Geology, Engineering Geology or Earth Science, or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering/Engineering Geology (desirable).
•Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) or Geologist (CGeol) status preferred, or on track to achieve within the next year.
•Strong knowledge of UK and Irish ground conditions and ground investigation practices.
•Experience in geotechnical design (e.g., earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, slope stabilisation) with analytical skills and relevant design software (e.g., Slope/W, Wallap).
•Good knowledge of relevant Eurocode, British and Irish Standards, plus application of CDM Regulations / Safety in Design in a design and ground investigation environment.
