Job Summary

Build and operate Abnormal’s next-generation SMTP relay infrastructure for inbound and outbound email security. You’ll design and implement core MTA relay components (scalability, IP management, encryption, DMARC), co-build production services, and own tier-0 mail flow at production SLA with on-call rotations. Partner with PMs and Solutions Architects to translate requirements into reliable configurations, and help shape the broader Mail Flow platform architecture.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and implement core components of the SMTP relay harness, including MTA infrastructure, scalability, IP management, encryption, and DMARC support.
•Co-build and ramp toward full ownership of production relay services as the product matures.
•Collaborate with PMs and Solutions Architects to translate customer requirements into reliable relay configurations for inbound and outbound use cases.
•Own and operate tier-0 mail flow services handling high volumes of enterprise email at production SLA, including on-call rotations and reliability improvements.
•Contribute to technical design discussions on integrating the relay with inline products (outbound DLP, behavioral outbound, misdirected email) and define the broader Mail Flow platform architecture.

Key Requirements

•BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems, or a related engineering field.
•3+ years of backend software development experience building production services with distributed systems.
•Hands-on experience with Go and/or Python.
•Experience building features from scratch and owning them in production alongside operational work.
•Comfort working in ambiguity and 0-to-1 projects with product and engineering stakeholders; capable of asynchronous written communication with distributed teams.
