Job Summary

Build and evolve foundational platform infrastructure for a complex multi-cloud DataOps environment powering Astro, Observe, and an IDE. You’ll design systems under load, reason deeply about failure modes and latency, and make build-vs-buy technology decisions. Own platform infrastructure strategy, drive outcomes, and maintain internal documentation and decision records, collaborating with a globally distributed engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

•Own and develop platform infrastructure strategy, mapping what the platform needs, making the calls, and owning outcomes.
•Be directly involved in deciding what to work on and how to work, making promises and delivering.
•Make principled build-vs-buy assessments to advocate for the right tools for the right job.
•Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation and decision records for systems and processes.
•Participate in architectural forums and make open, principled decisions the organization can build on.

Key Requirements

•Demonstrated depth in distributed systems, including practical understanding of failure modes such as tradeoffs, cascades, backpressure, and graceful degradation.
•Operate Kubernetes at operator depth, with experience running clusters under real load and understanding scheduler/control loop behavior during failures.
•Strong proficiency in Go, having built and shipped production systems in it.
•Multi-cloud architectural experience across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure, including evaluating tradeoffs and living with decisions in production.
•Experience defining requirements and driving technology choices across an engineering organization, plus strong written and verbal communication.
