Job Summary

Lead a lean, agile engineering squad that builds tools powering daily workflows for hundreds of thousands of real estate agents. You’ll translate business needs into technical requirements, unblock development velocity, and ensure secure, performant features across Compass’s centralized platform. Partner with Product and Design, enforce engineering excellence through code reviews, testing, and CI/CD, and manage reliability and scale while mentoring a hybrid team of engineers and contractors.

•Own day-to-day agile development processes, including sprint planning, prioritization, and blocker removal to maintain velocity.
•Directly manage and mentor a hybrid team of full-time engineers and contractors, setting performance standards and supporting career growth.
•Collaborate with Product and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous requests into clear, structured, phased technical specifications.
•Enforce engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and comprehensive system documentation.
•Monitor and optimize application performance, reliability, and scale; drive aligned business/technical communication via plans, specs, and postmortems.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 194,000 - 215,000 annually

Key Requirements

•8+ years of software engineering experience with software design patterns, APIs, and modern cloud backend architectures.
•3+ years of directly managing software engineering teams, including hiring, developing, and motivating engineers.
•Practical experience building SaaS/workflow tools, CRM, transactional systems, or enterprise software applications.
•Ability to manage a team backlog, protect against over-commitment, make resource trade-offs, and consistently ship high-quality software.
•Solid understanding of data security concepts including secure IAM permissions, data privacy, and protecting PII.
