Key Responsibilities

  • •Test aggregate and/or asphalt mix to determine composition and consistency with required specifications.
  • •Monitor quality of hot mix asphalt and pavement conditions during installation, including temperature, thickness, density, and condition.
  • •Conduct tests to determine requirements such as weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation of mix components.
  • •Enter test result data into computer systems in laboratories and remote locations, and communicate results to other technicians and paving personnel.

Key Requirements

  • •High school diploma or equivalent skill level.
  • •Ability to carry out standardized laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards and perform basic operating procedures of an asphalt plant.
  • •Ability to obtain Level 2 and/or 3 ODOT Testing Certifications within a reasonable amount of time.
  • •Ability to operate required equipment, including a density meter, and use two-way radio communications.
  • •Ability to read English sufficiently for specifications, reports, manuals, and regulations, and perform intermediate math including algebra and geometry.
