Job Summary

Lead technical delivery of large AI R&D projects within the Data and Decision Support Capability, covering reinforcement learning, NLP/LLMs, knowledge graphs, and AI for RF/EW, radar/sonar, and image/video recognition for remote sensing. Prepare and deliver technical reports and proposals, identify novel research with partnership potential, present topics to technical and non-technical audiences, and provide engineering assurance and technical mentoring to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead technical delivery of large AI R&D projects across reinforcement learning, NLP/LLMs, knowledge graphs, and AI applications including RF/EW and imagery recognition.
•Lead and assure preparation and delivery of technical reports, technical proposals, and supporting materials.
•Identify novel research opportunities and direct research activities with potential partnership with UK universities or other parts of BAE Systems.
•Present research topics effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including in-house and external customers.
•Provide engineering assurance on bids, publications, and project deliverables, and undertake technical mentoring of more junior staff.

Key Requirements

•PhD in a relevant discipline.
•Circa 10+ years of demonstrable experience in an AI/ML role in industry or academia, preferably in the Defence sector.
•Experience leading R&D teams and undertaking engineering assurance activities.
•Proposal writing experience.
•Experience in one or more domains such as AI/ML for imagery (remote sensing), reinforcement learning, NLP/LLMs, large language models, knowledge graphs, or AI/ML for RF/EW (radar/sonar/acoustics).
