Job Summary

Shape Trainline’s iOS engineering future as a Senior Principal Engineer within the App Platform team. Define and own long-term iOS technical strategy, evolve engineering standards and reusable patterns, and lead cross-organisation technical modernisation to improve scalability and maintainability. Partner with principal engineers, architects, product and design to drive a cohesive cross-platform vision across iOS, Android, web and architecture—while raising quality, reliability and performance through modular, testable design.

Key Responsibilities

•Define and own the long-term technical strategy for iOS aligned to Trainline’s business goals and the wider architectural vision.
•Own and evolve iOS engineering standards, reusable patterns and best practices to improve developer experience and software quality.
•Lead organisation-wide technical modernisation programmes to simplify the engineering landscape and improve maintainability and scalability.
•Partner with principal engineers, architects and senior leaders to establish cross-platform strategy and decide where platforms remain distinct.
•Champion modular, testable and maintainable software design, evaluate emerging technologies, and mentor senior engineers in the Principal Engineering community.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 110,000 - 130,000 annually

•Deep expertise in modern iOS development, with experience designing modular, testable, maintainable software balancing scalability, reliability, performance and long-term maintainability.
•Experience establishing engineering standards, technical patterns and best practices, influencing adoption across an organisation through technical credibility and collaboration.
•Ability to create alignment across engineering disciplines, working with architects, product and design to deliver business outcomes.
•Strong judgement when evaluating emerging technologies, including AI-enabled engineering practices, balancing value with cost, risk and long-term sustainability.
