Job Summary

Develop acoustic levitation systems for droplet generation, levitation, and 3D manipulation by shaping ultrasound waves. Conduct research in design, finite element modelling, construction, characterisation, and integration with optical detection, then analyse results and communicate findings through reports, publications, and national and international conference presentations. Supervise research students and maintain and train others on laboratory equipment within the School of Chemistry.

Key Responsibilities

•Undertake research into acoustic levitation systems including design, finite element modelling, construction, characterisation, integration with optical detection, and application.
•Analyse and interpret research findings and results.
•Produce written and oral reports, give presentations, and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals; present results at national and international conferences.
•Supervise research students and be responsible for installation, maintenance, and training on laboratory equipment.
•Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research and contribute to new models, techniques, and methods.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 36,636 - 42,254 annually

Key Requirements

•Completed a PhD in Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
•Ability to design, build, and use ultrasonic and high-voltage systems for generation, manipulation, and levitation of droplets and/or particles.
•Experience modelling acoustics using finite element modelling packages such as COMSOL Multiphysics is highly desirable.
•Ability to design, build, and use optical and electronics instrumentation and analytical systems is highly desirable.
•Ability to communicate complex information clearly and contribute to planning and organising the research programme.
