Key Responsibilities

  • •Adhere to safety, health and environmental (SHE) policies and requirements, and escalate unsafe practices or risks to the supervisor/manager.
  • •Maintain, calibrate, and verify monitoring equipment accuracy (including batteries, filters, sensors, and data logging) and keep detailed maintenance records.
  • •Conduct hygiene support activities when required, including air sampling for contaminants (dust, gases, vapours) and monitoring noise levels.
  • •Assess hazardous chemical exposure and workplace ergonomics, evaluate ventilation effectiveness, and ensure PPE is correctly provided and used.
  • •Participate in SLAMs/HPHs/risk assessments, close out safety actions, and respond to occupational hazard emergencies (e.g., chemical spills).

Key Requirements

  • •Grade 12 with a National Certificate in Occupational Hygiene (NQF5) or related field (with National Diploma in Occupational Hygiene (NQF6) preferred).
  • •Registration with the Southern African Institute of Occupational Hygiene at Technologist level, or an Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental (Minerals Council of South Africa).
  • •International ICertOHTA Certificate or BOHS CertOH is advantageous.
  • •Valid SA Drivers Licence: Code B.
  • •3–5 years of relevant technician experience maintaining occupational hygiene equipment, preferably in a mining environment.
