Job Summary

Lead substation engineering projects for WSP’s Power & Energy team, supporting multi-site due diligence through design, planning, permitting, and construction. Provide high-level electrical engineering guidance across substations, power distribution, protection & control systems, and grounding/lightning design. Coordinate and review electrical infrastructure plans, perform and review complex calculations, manage documentation, and oversee cross-functional engineering teams to deliver compliant, safety-focused outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

•Support multi-site/phase due diligence, investigations, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction for utility and industrial-scale projects.
•Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing site data, blueprints, GIS maps, substation components, and standards/regulations to support design and procurement deliverables.
•Coordinate, review, and approve electrical infrastructure design plans and perform electrical engineering work (single-line/three-line diagrams, layouts, grounding grid, lightning protection).
•Review electrical calculations including loads, equipment sizing, grounding potentials, short circuit studies, protective device coordination, and protective relaying.
•Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams, manage technical documentation and safety plans (HASPs), and interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
•7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience providing substation design deliverables for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
•Professional Engineer License.
•Proficiency in electrical engineering principles and design/build work, including permitting and compliance-related project issues.
•Extensive substation design knowledge and ability to perform and review electrical engineering calculations and computations.
