Key Responsibilities

•Design and implement hybrid search strategies that combine keyword matching with semantic search.
•Tune relevance by building systems to measure and improve search quality and answer accuracy using evaluation tools like LangSmith.
•Integrate OpenAI embeddings into Elasticsearch and manage vector search and RAG retrieval, including indexing long documents for accurate retrieval.
•Optimize Elasticsearch queries and index settings to maintain low latency for complex, filter-heavy searches.
•Develop and maintain Python backend services that build queries and process results using FastAPI and Asyncio.

Key Requirements

•5+ years building search engines in production, with strong understanding of indices, analyzers, and mappings.
•Understand lexical (keyword) vs vector (meaning) search and know when to use each.
•Strong Python experience (Python 3.10+), comfortable with async/await and building APIs.
•Experience designing data schemas for search, including structuring JSON documents for efficient retrieval.
•Experience building RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines.
