Job Summary

Network Technician I at Black Box Network Services will support data communications and network infrastructure through rack and stack, patching, physical layer troubleshooting, and IP phone installation/troubleshooting, in a 24/7 data center environment in Richmond, VA. You’ll install, troubleshoot, and de-install network equipment, collaborate with facilities and MAC teams, and ensure connectivity for customer networks.

Job Function: Field Service, Maintenance & Skilled Trades

Key Responsibilities

•Patch cabling between network equipment and the customer’s network
•Install power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet
•Install, troubleshoot, and de-install network equipment (including IP phones) and remote sniffers
•Complete MAC requests within defined service levels and act as interface between customer’s associates and management
•Provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure and perform onsite testing and inventory management

Key Requirements

•5 years of experience in data communications
•Must be proficient with Sniffers, BERT testers, cable testers, and fiber testers
•Experience working in communications closets, including rack and stack activities
•Familiar with cable patching processes and 66 Block/110 Block cross-connect procedures
•Basic knowledge of data communications networking; able to troubleshoot issues and understand network terminology; familiarity with IP phones (Cisco/Avaya) and ability to program Cisco phones
