Job Summary

Senior AMO Physicist to design, implement, and characterize neutral-atom quantum computing systems at Harwell. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of physicists, engineers, and computer scientists to advance neutral-atom QC, run and calibrate QPU operations, investigate noise and decoherence, analyze experimental data, and stay current with cutting-edge AMO physics and quantum computing developments.

Key Responsibilities

•Assist in the construction of a next generation neutral atom quantum computer at Quera UK’s site on the Harwell Science and Innovation campus
•Collaborate with engineering teams to verify and validate modules and subsystems
•Run, calibrate, test and improve the operation of the QPU
•Investigate sources of noise and decoherence and propose mitigation strategies
•Analyze experimental data and draw meaningful conclusions to guide system improvements

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•A Ph.D. in experimental AMO physics or related field, with hands-on experience in building or operating a neutral atom or a trapped ion system, or another quantum hardware platform or practical experience with actual gate-based quantum computers is a major asset.
•Success in research, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific talks and other contributions.
•Proficient programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
•Experience in mentoring or training scientists or engineers.
•Free to travel within Europe and the US where necessary
