Perform moderately complex preparation and instrumental analysis of steel, alloy, and slag specimens in the quality chemical lab. Inspect samples for quality, manage corrective/preventive maintenance for sample-prep machinery and instruments, and record results in the electronic laboratory management system (LIMS). Apply appropriate corrections using certified reference materials and support ongoing projects while ensuring a safe, production-oriented workplace.

Key Responsibilities

•Prepare steel, alloy, and slag specimens for analysis using equipment including abrasive saws, sanders, grinder, and drill presses.
•Perform instrumental analysis using C/S combustion instruments, N/O fusion instruments, optical emission spectrometers, SEM, and an inverted microscope.
•Inspect specimens for acceptable quality criteria, reject poor-quality specimens, and request replacement samples as needed.
•Conduct routine preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on sample preparation machinery and related equipment, including optics instruments.
•Register and identify new test specimens in LIMS, review test data, apply corrections, and retain or discard samples per SOP.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma required; Associate Degree in Chemistry or relevant physical science experience is preferred.
•One to two years of relevant laboratory experience and six months’ experience as a Technician I are required.
•Working knowledge of chemical lab testing procedures, including C/S and N/O methods and the optical emission spectrometer.
•Working knowledge of lab testing equipment: SEM and inverted microscope.
•Ability to operate LIMS and instrument software, follow SOP for sample handling, and work with moderate supervision or independently.
