Job Summary

Lead Airtable’s Performance & Architecture team within Enterprise engineering, owning the worker process that powers the core backend of every user-facing Airtable base. You’ll manage and grow systems engineers, partner with Product and senior technical ICs on deeply technical backend initiatives, and engage directly with large enterprise customers during performance and scale challenges. Join the “100x” Rust rewrite effort to enable dramatically higher scale and improved development velocity.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead, manage, and grow a team of systems engineers responsible for the core backend of every Airtable base.
•Engage directly with largest enterprise customers in pre- and post-sales contexts to address performance and scale challenges.
•Partner with senior and staff ICs on deeply technical decisions across backend product initiatives.
•Drive technical decisions and initiatives with engineering leaders to build products sustainably and at high quality.
•Drive operational excellence by implementing processes that help the team scale and stay productive, including incident/on-call leadership.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 281,000 - 365,700

Key Requirements

•5+ years engineering experience (in a staff or TL-level IC position) and 4+ years as a manager, or a similar combination.
•Systems background with a focus on improving product performance and the end-user experience.
•Experience working with enterprise customers or large third-party partners, including technical conversations and supporting customers through technical issues.
•Strong experience collaborating with Product Managers to define products, manage tradeoffs, and drive adoption.
•Experience leading engineering teams in a fast-paced environment, growing and mentoring engineers, and leading teams through incidents/on-call.
