Job Summary

Direct and oversee MBZUAI’s legal advisory, representation, and compliance activities, including contracts, IP, employment law, regulatory compliance, and litigation support. Lead organization-wide risk identification, management, and mitigation across financial, technological, operational, and other risk areas. Develop data protection and privacy programs aligned with GDPR, represent the university externally, and deliver legal training to build a compliance culture.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide legal counsel and guidance on contracts, IP, research collaborations, employment law, regulatory compliance, and litigation.
•Oversee drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts and implement contract management processes and templates.
•Develop and implement data protection and privacy policies, guidance, and breach/impact assessment approaches aligned with GDPR and related regulations.
•Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework and support compliance programs, audits, and corrective action plans.
•Represent MBZUAI in legal proceedings and build relationships with external legal counsel and advisors; provide training to support compliance culture.

Key Requirements

•At least 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney or lawyer, focused on technology law, intellectual property law, and regulatory compliance.
•JD or LLB (or equivalent) from an accredited law school with active membership in the relevant bar association or law society (as applicable).
•In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations for higher education, data protection and privacy, IP, contracts, and employment law.
•Proven track record providing strategic legal advice to complex organizations and managing complex legal projects across cross-functional teams.
•Experience leading, managing, motivating, and empowering teams.
