Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide technical advice and coordinate expertise to develop sustainable, multi-sectoral national strategies, policies, interventions, and plans for communicable and noncommunicable disease control.
  • •Recommend plans to include disease prevention and control interventions across the life course and continuum of care.
  • •Manage operational aspects of related operational research, surveillance, epidemiology, and health surveys, including setting annual priorities and key performance targets.
  • •Coordinate adoption of norms, standards, guidelines, and tools to support disease control project implementation, and guide documentation and dissemination of best practices.
  • •Analyze data and information on disease burdens and outbreaks, identify disease sources, and produce recommendations, reports, and preventative/control response guidance.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (public health, epidemiology, medicine, or statistics).
  • •Minimum of five years of work experience in communicable and noncommunicable diseases, focusing on disease investigation, surveillance, control, and developing strategies and action plans.
  • •Demonstrated experience providing technical services to national counterparts, ministries of health, and other partners on communicable disease related issues (desirable).
  • •Relevant professional experience with WHO and/or UN agencies, health cluster partners, or non-governmental/humanitarian organizations; some experience to have been obtained in an international context (desirable).
  • •Expert knowledge of Portuguese; desirable expert knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of French.
