Key Responsibilities

  • •Set the technical direction for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform architecture across React Native, iOS, and Android, defining shared vs. native layers.
  • •Turn the architecture into shipped code in the first few months, establishing performance, reliability, and observability foundations.
  • •Deliver a React Native surface live in production within six months, supported by stable capabilities and platform primitives.
  • •Serve as the architectural anchor for Staff and Senior engineers across Mobile Platform, guiding difficult technical decisions during migration.
  • •Scale adoption by partnering with major product teams to move onto the platform and establish engineering patterns for reuse.

  • •Built or significantly evolved a production-scale cross-platform mobile architecture, with strong relevance to React Native and React (Flutter and Kotlin Multiplatform also considered).
  • •Led a meaningful migration of a mature mobile product onto a new architecture while it remained live and growing (changing an existing system at scale).
  • •Provided principal-level technical leadership by setting direction across multiple teams and enabling Staff-level engineers to build against it.
  • •Shaped architecture beyond a single team by creating platforms, standards, or technical direction adopted across multiple groups or a large engineering org.
  • •Demonstrated hands-on technical depth—comfortable working through hard implementation details, not only setting direction.
