Key Responsibilities

  • •Evolve the open-sourced Rust-based Edge Runtime that runs the Deno isolate, manages runtime split, and enforces per-request CPU and memory limits.
  • •Implement monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing across the runtime, then use that visibility to optimize latency and reliability.
  • •Collaborate with Deno and other open-source teams by contributing upstream and relaying user requirements.
  • •Maintain Edge Functions health via an on-call rotation and improve production features like scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSockets streaming, ephemeral file storage, and custom routing.
  • •Integrate edge functions with the rest of the Supabase stack (Auth, Postgres, Storage, Realtime) and expand supported use cases such as AI inference, MCP servers, website hosting, and URL shorteners.

Key Requirements

  • •At least 5 years of backend or systems engineering experience with strong fluency in Rust and TypeScript.
  • •Experience with V8 Isolates and Deno (and JavaScript runtimes).
  • •Experience operating infrastructure at scale, including Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis, or comparable systems.
  • •A strong vision for how compute and data can be pushed to the edge.
  • •Bonus: experience building developer-facing CLIs or front-end tooling for infrastructure products.
