Job Summary

Lead the Department of Environment, Climate Change, One Health and Migration by setting departmental vision and operationalizing it through performance management. Provide scientific, technical, and policy leadership to Member States and stakeholders, overseeing climate- and environment-related guidelines, monitoring frameworks, and global reporting. Manage complex multidisciplinary programmes and teams, strengthen partnerships, and represent WHO’s climate and health work in major global fora.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide overall leadership, management accountability, and direction for the Department’s delivery, including operational performance management.
•Lead the implementation of evidence-based WHO guidelines across climate and health, migration, air quality, water safety, environmental health, and One Health.
•Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of climate and environmental health indicators, including progress on SDG targets and annual reporting.
•Establish early warning systems and emergency protocols for climate-related health issues, extreme weather events, chemical incidents, and climate-associated zoonotic threats.
•Drive advocacy, resource mobilization, and partnership engagement; represent WHO in global fora such as COP and other convenings to position WHO as a climate-and-health leader.

Key Requirements

•Advanced university degree (Master's level or above) in public health, medicine, environmental sciences, climate science, epidemiology, or a related field.
•Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public health or a related field in senior leadership roles delivering strategy and programmes, including managing large teams and financial resources.
•Minimum 7 years leadership experience in climate change and/or environmental health, including programme leadership/management and/or policy/strategy development and/or technical advisory roles.
•Demonstrated experience at the international level collaborating with governments and a wide variety of partners, including UN agencies, bilateral development agencies, NGOs, and the private sector.
•Expert knowledge of English; intermediate knowledge of French is desirable.
