Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide strategic leadership and oversight for carnivore collection management, including animal welfare, husbandry, behavioral management, and safety systems.
  • •Lead planning and long-term development of carnivore programs, ensuring species are managed to international best practices and refined through welfare monitoring and incident review.
  • •Manage the carnivore collection strategically, including recommendations for acquisitions, transfers, breeding programs, collection planning, population sustainability, and participation in species initiatives.
  • •Develop and lead a highly competent carnivore team by coaching supervisors, senior keepers, keepers, trainers, interns, and volunteers; emphasize safe, competent handling and emergency response.
  • •Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Veterinary Services, Animal Welfare, Nutrition, Facilities, Conservation, Education, Life Support Systems, Guest Experience) and provide expert input into exhibit design and operational procedures.

Key Requirements

  • •Master’s degree in Zoology, Wildlife Management, Animal Science, Conservation Biology, Veterinary Science, Animal Behaviour, or a closely related discipline.
  • •Managing large carnivores and other dangerous species within a modern zoological facility.
  • •Experience managing breeding programs, behavioral management programs, emergency procedures, safety systems, exhibit operations, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • •Previous experience within AZA, EAZA, WAZA, SEAZA, BIAZA, ZAA, or similarly accredited zoological institutions.
  • •Experience participating in Species Survival Plans (SSPs), European Ex-situ Programmes (EEPs), studbook management, and conservation breeding programs (desirable).
