Key Responsibilities

  • •Oversee delivery of ecological projects across transport, energy, water, development, and major infrastructure sectors.
  • •Provide technical leadership, including review and sign-off of ecological reports and assessments (PEA, EcIA, HRA, BNG, protected species mitigation, Habitat Management Plans).
  • •Provide expert advice on UK ecological legislation, planning policy, and biodiversity requirements while ensuring deliverables meet quality, compliance, and consistency standards.
  • •Lead project management activities including developing scopes, budgets, work plans, resource forecasts, and monitoring delivery against programme, budget, quality, and risk objectives.
  • •Support business development by contributing to bids/tenders and capability statements, and mentor ecologists and assistant ecologists.

Key Requirements

  • •Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Zoology, Conservation Biology, or a related discipline, with a Master’s desirable.
  • •Significant experience working within ecological consultancy, preferably supporting UK projects.
  • •Proven track record leading ecological assessments and managing complex projects.
  • •Strong knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain, protected species legislation, UKHab classification, Habitat Regulations, and Environmental Impact Assessment processes.
  • •Ability to manage project teams and mentor junior staff; full CIEEM membership or progression toward chartership desirable.
