Key Responsibilities

  • •Ensure assigned systems stay authorized and honestly described, including acceptable control implementations and security review triggers.
  • •Harden, monitor, and remediate systems by defining secure configuration, tooling, and engineering out risks.
  • •Lead the security engineering function by setting standards and being accountable when designs meet threats/audit findings.
  • •Close security findings at their root cause so remediations stay fixed and don’t recur under new numbers.
  • •Maintain an accurate, current security posture by ensuring recorded implementation matches what’s running and by communicating risk in time for decisions.

Key Requirements

  • •Carry a system through authorization and clearly explain what the hard part actually was.
  • •Have worked inside RMF or an equivalent federal authorization framework.
  • •Close a class of findings (not just individual items) and describe what you changed to make remediation stick.
  • •Write or review security documentation that a government reviewer had to defend.
  • •Hold an active CBP BI, a fitness determination at another DHS component, or an active DoD clearance; CISSP/CISM/CAP/Security+ are useful but not substitutes.
