Key Responsibilities

  • •Implement HSBC underwriting policy and principles within the Chief Underwriting Office to ensure sound, profitable business.
  • •Accept or authorize new business cases or increases to existing policies within prescribed personal authority, on a sound, profitable portfolio basis.
  • •Monitor underwriting rules, guidelines and philosophy for market competitiveness and evolving medical/insurance risk principles.
  • •Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and external procedures to enhance customer quality delivery.
  • •Ensure activities comply with procedures, service standards, group policies and regulatory controls; maintain robust internal controls.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related field; professional qualifications such as LOMA, ALU, ALUCA or CII desirable
  • •10 years of underwriting experience in insurance, with at least 5 years in the High Net Worth market
  • •Substantial authority over large sums insured (at least USD 10m, ideally 15m) and ability to manage complex broker cases including reinsurers
  • •Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills; ability to work with internal and external customers
  • •Self-motivated, proactive and capable of working with minimal direction and handling cross-border risk assessments
