Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead the crew to develop and meet farm goals by following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • •Ensure safe operations and compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, animal care, SHPD reporting, and environmental requirements.
  • •Manage personnel and farm systems, including training/supervision, payroll preparation, research expenses monitoring, and weekly/monthly action plans.
  • •Conduct and oversee research trials by collecting research data, maintaining records (medication, charts), composing summaries, and updating research protocols.
  • •Maintain facilities and equipment by performing inspections, sanitation, basic maintenance, and ensuring machinery/vehicles are accounted for and properly maintained.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural field plus 2+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent education and experience).
  • •Swine experience and ability to perform animal husbandry tasks including euthanasia, castration, vaccinations, piglet processing, ear tagging, and taking blood samples.
  • •Lead/people experience: train, coach, mentor, or manage a process or project.
  • •Must understand experimental design for research experiments and be able to collect and maintain accurate research data and records.
  • •Computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, plus familiarity with RFID technology tags and research/data software used by Smithfield.
