Job Summary

Perform power testing and energization activities for Protection and Control systems on high-voltage utility substations. Execute relay testing and commissioning work using standards (IEEE/NETA/NFPA/NESC) and relay test sets (Omicron CMC, Doble F6150), document field activity with digital tools, and support project leads while mentoring junior technicians. Coordinate safety, compliance, and data integrity across active job sites, escalating technical issues as needed.

Key Responsibilities

•Support testing and commissioning activities using client testing standards, industry standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
•Perform protection and control testing on high voltage substations, including hands-on protective relay testing with relay test sets.
•Document site activities using field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications; maintain logs, photo documentation, and label entries with data integrity.
•Support project leadership (Project Lead/Field Supervisor), escalate complex technical problems, and participate in daily safety briefings.
•Provide day-to-day field support and may review/guide less experienced technicians; assist with equipment cleaning, inventory control, calibration, and subcontractor monitoring.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including medium/high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
•Expertise in transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes, including relay calibration and static/dynamic testing.
•Proficiency with field testing standards and practices such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA.
•Experience using technical software (ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, AcSELerator Quickset) and reading electrical drawings.
