Job Summary

Lead Human Factors consulting work across complex rail programmes, managing projects from bid through completion. Assess human performance risks and develop human-centred design solutions, guiding multidisciplinary teams on safety, efficiency, and accessibility. Partner with clients including Network Rail, Hitachi, RSSB, and Transport for London, managing resources, costs, and work packages while delivering progressive assurance, evidence, and risk-based requirements.

Key Responsibilities

•Manage multiple Human Factors projects from bids through completion, supporting junior colleagues and ensuring high-quality delivery.
•Deliver assessments of human performance risks and develop human-centred design solutions for rail infrastructure, rolling stock, control rooms, accessibility, and digital railway technologies.
•Lead Human Factors Integration planning and manage progressive assurance activities and the associated evidence.
•Identify and manage Human Factors issues/risks and derive design requirements for multidisciplinary teams.
•Apply relevant industry standards and good practice guidance, scoping and delivering Human Factors methodologies including task analysis, human error assessment, workload assessment, workstation/interface design, and alerts/alarms management.

Key Requirements

•A relevant undergraduate or master’s degree related to Human Factors/Ergonomics, Psychology, Systems Engineering, or similar.
•Chartered member status with the CIEHF, or equivalent experience and competencies to achieve this in the short term.
•Evidence of study modules covering topics such as ergonomics, human-system interface design, human performance, psychology, or similar.
•At least five years’ experience as a Human Factors adviser in complex, high-reliability environments, including at least two years in the rail environment.
•Strong verbal and written communication, consultation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
