Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead and support terrestrial archaeological field programs including overviews, impact assessments, monitoring, excavation, and mitigation.
  • •Conduct marine, intertidal, and underwater archaeological investigations using historical, oceanographic, geological, and archaeological data.
  • •Assist in planning and executing marine archaeological surveys using remote-sensing technologies and other specialized field methods.
  • •Collaborate on field programs and desktop analyses with senior underwater archaeologists, and prepare archaeological reports, permit applications, and regulatory documentation.
  • •Support project management (scope, scheduling, budgeting, logistics, quality, documentation, health & safety) and mentor junior archaeological staff.

Salary: CAD 80,800 - 107,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related discipline; Master’s degree in relevant field is an asset.
  • •Professional archaeological consulting experience at an intermediate level across marine, intertidal, coastal, underwater, and terrestrial projects.
  • •Working knowledge of the BC Heritage Conservation Act and associated permitting processes, plus familiarity with federal/provincial legislation for underwater cultural heritage resources.
  • •Field Director status in a BC cultural area or active progression toward Field Director qualifications is an asset.
  • •Knowledge of submerged cultural landscapes, maritime heritage resources, shipwreck archaeology, and pre-Contact archaeological resources in British Columbia.
