Job Summary

Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to municipal and regional water utilities on AMI procurements, deployments, and digital transformation. Lead owner’s engineer engagements from AMI vendor selection through pilot design, full deployment, and close-out. Advise on AMI architecture and communications (e.g., RF mesh, cellular, LoRa Wan), build AMI KPI frameworks, evaluate vendors and costs, and support RFPs, negotiations, and technical steering committee sessions.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead owner’s engineer engagements for AMI vendor selection, pilot design, full deployment, and program close-out.
•Advise utilities on AMI system architecture decisions, including point-to-multipoint, RF mesh, cellular, LoRa Wan, and hybrid communication technologies.
•Develop and manage AMI KPI frameworks to track technical, operational, and financial performance benchmarks.
•Draft and review RFPs, technical specifications, evaluation criteria, and contract language for AMI hardware, software, and services; support structured vendor evaluations and cost-benefit analyses.
•Assess meter data management and MDMS-to-billing integration readiness; advise on IT/OT integration and non-revenue water strategies, and support business case development and procurement negotiations.

Key Requirements

•BA/BS in engineering, business, environmental science, public administration, or related field plus 6 years working for or directly with water organizations in AMI, metering, or smart water, or an equivalent demonstrated combination of experience and education.
•Experience with end-to-end AMI deployment or major metering infrastructure upgrades.
•Experience with AMI vendor landscape, including platforms such as Itron, Sensus, Neptune, Kamstrup, Master Meter, Badger Meter, and comparable systems.
•Experience with meter data management (MDM) and integration with CIS/billing platforms.
•Ability and willingness to travel 25%–50% of the time.
