•Hire and lead engineers building the observability foundation, owning career development, performance management, coaching, and a culture of technical excellence.
•Define observability strategy and a multi-year roadmap, turning vision into sequenced plans and shipped platform capabilities.
•Lead design of an events-first, wide-event data model and “golden paths,” including shared SDKs/libraries and instrumentation defaults.
•Drive detection and reliability goals by reducing mean time to detect on key user flows using SLOs and customer-experience signals.
•Own observability tool and vendor strategy across the observability stack (including maximizing Datadog value while reducing lock-in) and stay hands-on with critical architecture and experiments.

Key Requirements

•7+ years of software engineering with a platform/tool-building background, including testing and engineering rigor.
•3+ years of engineering management experience developing engineers and delivering complex technical initiatives through growth and change.
•Direct, hands-on experience building an observability or telemetry platform and implementing equivalent capabilities inside an engineering organization.
•Experience with event-based systems, including wide structured events and high-cardinality data, plus sampling/tagging and context propagation.
•Fluency with open standards and instrumentation, including hands-on OpenTelemetry (or equivalent) and SLI/SLO design.
•track record building SDKs and shared platforms as “paved roads” for other engineers
•Comfort setting vision and sequencing work and leading experiments to validate pilots
