Key Responsibilities

  • •Serve as principal advisor translating higher headquarters guidance (CJCSI 3500.01K, DoD issuances, USSOCOM objectives) into actionable training policy and directives.
  • •Coordinate with OSD, the Joint Staff, USSOCOM leadership, and stakeholders to develop Annual Training Guidance and ensure policy alignment across the SOF enterprise.
  • •Research and author the Annual Holistic Training Range Assessment (HTRA) report to evaluate range capabilities, capacity, utilization, and emerging requirements.
  • •Participate in the J8-led Unmanned Systems (UxS) Range Access Working Group to track technologies, access constraints, and integration challenges.
  • •Analyze the intersection of training policy and range infrastructure; review/update directives and advise USSOCOM leadership to optimize range utilization and enhance readiness.

Key Requirements

  • •Active Secret clearance required; able to obtain Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
  • •Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant area (military studies, anthropology, IT, education, operations research, analytics) or equivalent education/training and experience.
  • •Recent relevant military experience supporting position requirements.
  • •Strong understanding of a staff officer role with HQ USSOCOM, a Service HQ, or a CCMD HQ (4-Star military HQ).
  • •Familiarity with JTIMS, DRRS, JLLIS, and MS Office; proficiency with one or more tools identified in the table (Applications and Specialized Tools).
