Key Responsibilities

  • •Learn, demonstrate capability, and become certified in all farm department areas, fulfilling responsibilities under breeding/farrowing and nursery/finishing job descriptions.
  • •Gain solid understanding of and implement company systems such as pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, and husbandry practices.
  • •Perform and master hourly jobs under supervision, becoming certified in each after demonstrating competence and skill.
  • •Develop and prepare required reports on experiences encountered and identify/address opportunities for improvement.
  • •Comply with environmental laws and Smithfield policies (IPS, biosecurity, animal welfare, EMS), report issues immediately, and serve as acting HOD and on-call during emergencies as needed.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or a related agricultural field, or being a currently enrolled college student graduating by end of the current semester.
  • •Ability to work an average 48-hour week, with weekend, evening, and holiday work as needed.
  • •Willingness and ability to relocate to complete training and assume the first managerial assignment.
  • •Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft software.
  • •Ability to tolerate and be willing to learn farm tasks including euthanasia, castration, vaccinations, piglet processing, ear tagging, and blood sample collection.
