Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling, and codegen, making trade-offs between quick fixes and long-term foundations.
  • •Mature Canva’s mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA updates and staged rollout, to make shipping predictable.
  • •Lead staged migration of mobile repos into Canva’s monorepo, owning build, test, and release continuity.
  • •Define quality gating strategy across the build pipeline to surface reliability and speed issues early.
  • •Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared cross-platform foundation and align stakeholders across related platforms and DevX.

Key Requirements

  • •Deep, hands-on experience with Bazel, Gradle, or Xcode build systems at production scale.
  • •Experience scoping and delivering complex, cross-team projects such as migrations, monorepo consolidation, or build infrastructure at scale.
  • •Strong native engineering background in iOS, Android, or both, with a point of view on where cross-platform tooling fits.
  • •Experience owning CI/CD or mobile release pipelines that other teams depend on (not just contributing).
  • •Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term architecture and define technical direction based on tooling shifts.
