Job Summary

Deliver safe, efficient crane and seamanship operations on board Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) vessels. Lead and coordinate crane operations, run pre-operation safety briefings, and ensure PPE and safe systems of work are followed. Support cargo movements and berthing activities, maintain cranes and deck equipment, and complete safety, environmental, and operational readiness tasks. Work with the deck team and Engineering Department while meeting Health & Safety and RFA standards under a structured rota.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and coordinate crane operations, including pre-operation safety briefings covering operating constraints, lifting plans, and deck team responsibilities.
•Ensure personnel safety during crane operations, including correct PPE use and adherence to safe systems of work.
•Operate shipboard lifting appliances safely and effectively, applying knowledge of load forces, lifting practices, and stress factors.
•Support cargo handling, stores transfers, and logistical operations while complying with environmental and pollution prevention procedures.
•Maintain cranes, seamanship equipment, and deck machinery through routine inspections, operator checks, and defect reporting; also support maintenance and repair alongside Engineering.

Key Requirements

•Hold an Able Seafarer (AB) Certificate of Competence.
•Hold a recognised Crane Operator Stage qualification and be competent in offshore and subsea lifting operations.
•Hold relevant STCW certifications, including Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Survival Craft, Designated Security Duties, and Elementary First Aid.
•Hold a valid ENG1 medical certificate and passport.
•Have knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, and lifting equipment inspection requirements.
