Key Responsibilities

  • •Act as RTFE for U.S. tailings facilities, ensuring dam safety, structural integrity, and alignment with closure objectives for Pend Oreille Mine.
  • •Lead and influence development, evaluation, and implementation of tailings closure design strategies, including surveillance evolution and long-term performance objectives.
  • •Provide geotechnical and geoenvironmental technical leadership for tailings and water-retaining structures, including investigations, instrumentation, monitoring, and closure-related field activities.
  • •Lead dam safety inspections, reviews, Independent Tailings Review Board engagements, and governance reviews; ensure findings inform closure decisions and programs.
  • •Manage contractors and consultants and maintain OMS documentation/training and tailings-specific risk registers aligned with Teck standards.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Environmental, Geological, or Mining Engineering, preferably with specialization in geotechnical/tailings, environmental engineering, or mine closure.
  • •Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical, tailings, environmental, or mining engineering, including operational, closure-focused, consulting, regulatory, and/or technical leadership.
  • •Demonstrated experience supporting or leading tailings facilities transitioning from operation to closure, including closure design development and alternative evaluation.
  • •Experience with geotechnical/geo-environmental data analysis, surveillance and monitoring systems, dam safety inspections, geotechnical investigations, and project management.
  • •Experience leading external consultants and contractors, including identifying and addressing deficiencies, and understanding of tailings governance and dam safety management practices.
