Job Summary

Provide specialist occupational medical services for the mine, covering safety, health, and environment commitments. Manage and coordinate medical evaluations and injury-on-duty cases to ensure efficient health system functioning and minimal operational disruption. Support medical audits and compliance with relevant legislation and standards, advise on work capacity and return-to-work programs, and lead the medical team to deliver high-quality occupational health care.

Key Responsibilities

•Adhere to and support SHE policies, including escalation of unsafe practices and participation in VFLs, risk assessments, and safety action close-out.
•Manage and coordinate medical evaluation cases and oversee injury-on-duty (IOD) cases during and after working hours, including case tracking and response coordination.
•Provide expert advice during medical audits and coordinate workplace medical visits to monitor health and safety conditions and support corrective actions.
•Advise management and employees on working capacity assessments, return-to-work programs, and decisions related to medical disability and employee placement.
•Lead and manage the medical team, facilitate safety meetings, and implement performance monitoring to ensure delivery of high-quality medical services.

Key Requirements

•6-8 years of relevant medical experience with strong medical diagnosis and treatment knowledge.
•Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology, including emergency medicine and injury management in mining.
•Expertise in occupational health risks, preventive healthcare, occupational rehabilitation, and return-to-work strategies.
•Understanding of legal requirements in occupational health (MHSA, OHSA) and occupational rehabilitation requirements.
•Postgraduate qualification in occupational health and medicine (MBCHB plus Post Graduate Diploma) and a South African drivers license (Code B).
